Regulations for examinations

M.Phil. Degree in Mathematics (by advanced study)

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 516)

With immediate effect

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Mathematics, has agreed to withdraw the examination in Mathematics for the M.Phil. Degree by advanced study and for the special regulations for that examination to be rescinded.

M.Phil. Degree in Mathematics (by dissertation)

With effect from 1 October 2018

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Mathematics, has approved Mathematics as a subject for the degree of Master of Philosophy by dissertation with effect from 1 October 2018. Special regulations for the examination in the subject have been approved as shown below and the subject of Mathematics will be added to the Schedule annexed to the regulations for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, Master of Letters, and Master of Philosophy by dissertation (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 481), which confirms the subjects for examination leading to the M.Phil. degree by dissertation.

Mathematics

BY DISSERTATION

The scheme of examination for the one-year course of study in Mathematics for the degree of Master of Philosophy by dissertation shall consist of:

(a)a thesis, of a length and form appropriate to the topic, on a subject approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Mathematics;

(b)an oral examination on the thesis, and on the general field of knowledge within which it falls.
