Regulations for examinations

Law Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 346)

With immediate effect

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Law, have approved amendments to the regulations with respect to Paper 23 and to remove reference to class participation in so far as it relates to the role of Examiners and Assessors.

Regulation 15.

By amending the regulation concerning Paper 23 so as to read:

Paper 23.

Criminology, sentencing, and the penal system (also serves as Paper SOC15 of the Human, Social, and Political Sciences Tripos, and as optional Paper CR1 of the Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Tripos).

Regulation 19.

By removing the words ‘that participation and’ from the following part of the regulation: ‘and for assessing that participation and the essay submitted in connection with the course, shall be as follows:’.

By removing ‘and performance in class’ from the end of Regulation 19(e), so that the regulation now finishes with the words ‘based upon the assessment of the candidate’s essay’.

The Faculty Board of Law are satisfied that no candidate’s preparation for the examination will be affected by the above amendments.

Examination for the degree of Master of Corporate Law

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 440)

With immediate effect

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Law, have approved an amendment to Regulation 6(b), concerning coursework, so as to read:

Such coursework as may be prescribed by the Faculty Board from time to time (this may include student presentations and class participation).

The Faculty Board of Law are satisfied that no candidate’s preparation for the examination will be affected by the above amendment.

Examination in Criminological Research for the M.Phil. Degree

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 486)

With immediate effect

The General Board, on the recommendation of the of Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law, have approved an amendment to the regulations so as to correct an error concerning the overall thesis word count and the inclusion of appendices.

Regulation 1.

By amending Regulation 1(e) so as to read:

(e)a thesis of not more than 18,000 words, including footnotes or endnotes, but excluding appendices and bibliographical references, on a criminological topic approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law.

Regulation 2.

By amending Regulation 2(d) so as to read:

(d)a thesis of not more than 35,000 words, including footnotes or endnotes, but excluding appendices and bibliographical references, on a criminological topic approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law.

Examination in Criminology for the M.Phil. Degree

With immediate effect

The General Board, on the recommendation of the of Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law, have approved an amendment to the regulations so as to correct an error concerning the overall thesis word count and the inclusion of appendices.

By amending Regulation (d) so as to read:

(d)a thesis of 15,000 to 18,000 words, including footnotes or endnotes, but excluding appendices and bibliographical references, on a criminological topic approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law.

Examination in Applied Criminology and Police Management for the M.St. Degree

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 523)

With immediate effect

The General Board, on the recommendation of the of Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law, have approved an amendment to the regulations so as to correct an error concerning the overall thesis word count and the inclusion of appendices.

Regulation 1.

By amending Regulation 1(d) so as to read:

(d)a thesis of not more than 18,000 words in length, including footnotes or endnotes, but excluding appendices and bibliographical references, on a subject proposed by the candidate and approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law.

Examination in Applied Criminology, Penology, and Management for the M.St. Degree

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 523)

With immediate effect

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law, have approved an amendment to the regulations so as to correct an error concerning the overall thesis word count and the inclusion of appendices.

Regulation 1.

By amending Regulation 1(c) so as to read:

(c)a thesis of not more than 18,000 words in length, including footnotes or endnotes, but excluding appendices and bibliographical references, on a subject proposed by the candidate and approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Law.
