Report of the General Board on the establishment of a Diageo Readership in Management Studies

The General Board beg leave to report to the University as follows:

1. Judge Business School is internationally recognized as one of the leading providers of innovative, intellectually challenging, and practical business management education, including in the key area of Organizational Behaviour, across a portfolio of undergraduate, graduate, and executive programmes.

2. Organizational behaviour encompasses topics such as the role of personality in organizational life, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, motivation, decision-making, leadership, organizational culture and climate, and organizational change. The resignation of Professor Martin Kilduff and the forthcoming retirement of Professor Dame Sandra Dawson leave the Business School's Organizational Behaviour and Information Systems subject group deficient in senior leadership, and an exceptional appointment at Readership level will help maintain academic leadership in this area.

3. The Council of the School of Technology has supported the case made by the Faculty Board of Business and Management and recommends the establishment of a single tenure Diageo Readership in Management Studies. The cost of the Readership will be met by holding in abeyance the Diageo Professorship of Management Studies for the tenure of the person appointed. The proposal has the agreement of Diageo plc.

4. The General Board have accepted the Council of the School's proposal for the establishment of this Readership. The criteria for appointment to a Readership through open competition will be identical to those for appointment through the senior academic promotions procedure. The Appointments Committee will be constituted as specified in the regulations (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 743).

5. The General Board accordingly recommend:

I. That a Diageo Readership in Management Studies be established in Judge Business School for a single tenure from 1 August 2013.

II. That Regulation 2 of the regulations for the Diageo Professor of Management Studies (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 706) be amended as set out in the Schedule to this Report.

III. That the Diageo Professorship of Management Studies be discontinued from 1 August 2013 until such date as the General Board shall determine after consultation with the Council of the School of Technology and the Faculty Board of Business and Management.
