The General Board have established a group, under the Chairmanship of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education, to advise the central bodies on the position which the University might take, over time, in relation to making educational material more publicly available in a web-based form, taking into account developments elsewhere in the Higher Education sector, nationally and internationally, including the development elsewhere of Massive Open Online Courses [MOOCs]. A discussion forum has been posted on forum.cam.ac.uk. Contributions from any member of the University will be welcome. Contributions may also be sent to the Deputy Academic Secretary (email duncan.mccallum@admin.cam.ac.uk) to whom enquiries about the group’s work should be directed.
The General Board have, on the recommendation of the University Research Ethics Committee, approved the proposal that the monitoring of research projects, which would be better undertaken at School level, be removed from the remit of the Committee. The wording of Regulation 3 (i) of the regulations for the Committee will be amended accordingly (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 664).
