Regulations for examinations

Mathematical Tripos, Part III

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 373)

With immediate effect

The regulation referring to requirements for progression to Part III is amended to clarify arrangements for determining progression to Part III. Regulation 20 is replaced by:

20. The following may be a candidate for honours in Part III:

(a)a student who has obtained honours in Part II of the Mathematical Tripos, in the year next after so obtaining honours, provided that he or she has attained a satisfactory standard as prescribed by the Faculty Board of Mathematics in previous Honours Examinations;

(b)a student who has obtained honours or who has been deemed to have obtained honours in any Honours Examination other than Part II of the Mathematical Tripos, in the year next after so obtaining honours, provided that he or she has been given leave to do so by the Faculty Board of Mathematics;

always provided that he or she has not proceeded to the B.A. Degree.

With effect from 1 October 2013

Experimental and Theoretical Physics

The title of the subjects of examination in Part II and Part III previously known as ‘Experimental and Theoretical Physics’ will be amended to ‘Physics’ with effect from 1 October 2013.

Examination in Economic and Social History for the M.Phil. Degree

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 515)

With immediate effect

The Special Regulations governing the scheme of examination for the M.Phil. Degree in Economic and Social History have been amended so as to remove the list of prescribed subjects on offer for the written exercises.

Regulation 1.

By removing sub-paragraph (c) and replacing it with a new sub-paragraph so as to read:

(c) two written exercises, to be undertaken under conditions specified by the Degree Committee, on each of two subjects on topics chosen from a list of options announced by the Degree Committee.

The Degree Committee have confirmed that no candidate has been disadvantaged by this change.
