Regulations for examinations

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Geographical Tripos, Part Ib

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 336)

With effect from 1 October 2012

Regulation 18

Section A.

Paper 1 is amended from three hours’ duration to two hours’ duration. The essay previously referred to under Regulation 19 (c) (i) is now included in the requirements for Paper 1. The details of the essay are amended so as to read:

The essay shall be of not more than 2,000 words, excluding the bibliography. Footnotes and appendices are not permitted, but appropriate references are allowed in the body of the text (and should be included in the word-count). Six additional pages of material are allowed for maps, diagrams, and tables (with brief captions). The essay shall be on a topic chosen by the candidate from a list of topics announced by the Examiners which fall within the field of Geographical Ideas. Details of the arrangements for the submission of the essay shall be published by the Faculty Board not later than the division of the Easter Term next preceding the examination.

Regulation 19 is amended as follows:

19. A candidate for Part Ib shall offer:

(a)Paper 1,

(b)three papers from Section B, and

(c)submit to the Examiners, in accordance with arrangements to be specified by the Head of the Department of Geography and by a date or dates to be announced not later than the end of the first quarter of the Michaelmas Term,

(i)a record of a practical exercise or exercises undertaken by the candidate, and

(ii)a record of a practical exercise undertaken by the candidate and based on a residential field class.

All items of submitted work in sections (a), (b), and (c) shall be accompanied by a declaration as specified in Regulation 25.

SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

The Faculty Board of History give notice of amendments to the Supplementary Regulations for the Part I examinations of the Historical Tripos. Paper 17 will no longer be set in two sections. Paper 18 remains divided.

With immediate effect

Part I

Papers 12–18. European history, from 776 bc to the present day.

By removing the reference to Paper 17 and amending the first sentence of the second paragraph of the Supplementary Regulation so as to read:

Paper 18 will be set in two sections.

The Faculty Board are satisfied that no candidate’s preparation for the examination in 2013 will be adversely affected by this amendment.
