The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:
The list of papers that may be taken has been amended.
Regulation 18.
AMES.1 Cinema East
This paper is not available to candidates offering Middle Eastern Studies or Middle Eastern Studies with a Modern Language as a subject in 2013.
J.8 Japanese literary modernity
This paper is suspended in 2012–13.
Regulation 19.
(a) East Asian Studies
By amending sub-section (iii) of the Regulation so as to introduce a footnote against Paper J.8 to indicate that this paper is suspended in 2012–13.
(b) Middle Eastern Studies
By amending sub-sections (ii) (a) and (ii) (b) of the Regulation so as to introduce a footnote against Paper AMES.1 at each occurrence to indicate that this paper is not available to candidates offering this subject in 2013.
(c) Middle Eastern Studies with a Modern Language
By amending sub-sections (ii) and (iii) of the Regulation so as to introduce a footnote against Paper AMES.1 at each occurrence to indicate that this paper is not available to candidates offering this subject in 2013.
The Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies are satisfied that no candidate’s preparation for the examination in 2013 will be affected.
The scheme of the examination has been amended so as to place a new weighting on submitted essays, to revise the arrangements for candidates to take language examinations, and to require candidates to attend relevant seminars. Special Regulation 1 has been amended and a new Special Regulation 3 has been introduced as follows:
Regulation 1.
By inserting the following text beneath sub-paragraph (b) of the current Regulation:
The Degree Committee may require a candidate to offer instead of one of the essays a language examination consisting of one of the following written papers taken from Part Ia of the Classical Tripos:
Paper 2: Alternative Greek translation
Paper 4: Alternative Latin translation
and by removing sub-paragraph (c) of the current Regulation, and replacing it with a new sub-paragraph (c) so as to read:
and
(c) one further essay of circa 4,000 words on a topic approved by the Degree Committee. The marks for this essay shall be taken into consideration only if it has been judged to be at least of High Pass level and the candidate’s other marks are borderline.
Regulation 3.
By introducing a new Special Regulation so as to read:
3. Attendance at, and participation in, relevant seminars is required.
The Faculty Board of Classics have confirmed that no candidate has been disadvantaged by the changes.
The Special Regulations governing the scheme of examination for the M.Phil. in Early Modern History have been amended, so as to remove the list of prescribed subjects on offer for the written exercises.
Regulation 1.
By replacing the whole of sub-paragraph (c) with new text so as to read:
(c) written exercises on three subjects chosen from a list of options announced by the Degree Committee.
The Degree Committee have confirmed that no candidate has been disadvantaged by the changes.
The General Board have approved the following additions to the Schedule to Diplomas and Certificates open to non-members of the University:
