Regulations for examinations

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Classical Tripos, Part Ia

With immediate effect

The Supplementary Regulations for Papers 5 and 6 in Part Ia have been amended so as to reflect the fact that candidates will now be given the opportunity to show their understanding of scansion when answering questions on one of the verse passages in both Greek and Latin in Paper 5. The scansion exercise will no longer form part of the examination in Paper 6.

SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 292)

PART Ia

Paper 5. Greek and Latin texts

By removing the current Supplementary Regulation and replacing it with revised text so as to read:

This paper will contain questions on works contained in the schedules of Greek and Latin texts prescribed for Papers 1 to 4. The paper will contain questions on a number of passages which may be in prose or verse. The first five questions on each passage will be focused on detailed understanding of the language and the final question will ask for an extended analysis and appreciation. One of the verse passages in both Greek and Latin will give candidates the opportunity to show their understanding of scansion when answering questions.

Paper 6. Classical questions

By removing the final sentence of the Supplementary Regulation and replacing it with revised text so as to read:

Candidates will be required to answer four questions.
