Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 11 May 2011

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, unless they are withdrawn or a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 20 May 2011.

1. That, on the nomination of New Hall, William Owen Saxton, M.A., Ph.D., of that College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2011–12.

2. That, on the nomination of Magdalene College, Maria Christina Skott, Ph.D., of that College, Fellow of Wolfson College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2011–12.

3. That, on the nomination of the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctors Designate, James Anthony Trevithick, M.A., of King’s College, and Jane Patricia Spencer, M.A., Ph.D., of Sidney Sussex College, be appointed Additional Pro-Proctors for the academical year 2011–12.

4. That, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and with the concurrence of the General Board, the Readership of Sanskrit be reassigned from the Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies to the Department of Middle Eastern Studies with effect from 1 August 2011.1

5. That Regulation 2 of the regulations for Precincts of the University and residence (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 181) be amended by inserting the degrees of M.A.St. and M.C.L. after LL.M. in line 1.

6. That the Annual Report of the Council for the academical year 2009–10 (Reporter, 2010–11, p. 215) be approved.2

7. That the recommendations in paragraph 14 of the Report of the General Board, dated 2 March 2011, on the establishment of a Faculty of Human, Social, and Political Science (Reporter, 2010–11, p. 600) be approved.3

  • 1The Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies have proposed that the current posts in Indian Studies in the Faculty be reassigned to the Department of Middle Eastern Studies. This proposal has the support of the Head of the Department. The holder of the Readership in Sanskrit, Dr Eivind Kahrs, supports the reassignment of his Readership.

Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation on 14 May 2011

The Council has sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 14 May 2011:

That the following persons be admitted to the degree of Master of Arts under the provisions of Statute B, III, 6:

1. Alistair Robert Kitching, Computer Officer, Grade III, in the University Computing Service.

2. Jie Li, University Lecturer in the Department of Engineering and Fellow of Downing College.

3. Benjamin David Mestel, Deputy Director of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Fellow of King’s College.

4. Michelle Young, Computer Officer in the Management Information Services Division of the University Offices.
