Laing O’Rourke Professorship of Construction Engineering: Notice

The Laing O’Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology has recently been established as a result of a unique partnership between the University of Cambridge and Laing O’Rourke. The partnership will support a new Professorship, as well as two Lectureships, and a Director for a new Master’s course in Construction Engineering.

Reader in Sustainable Reaction Engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology

Salary: £55,535.

The Department has a strong interest in multi-scale, sustainable reaction engineering, which it seeks to strengthen through the appointment of a Reader.

The successful candidate will have an established publications record in reaction engineering in leading international journals, and be able to demonstrate capacity for intellectual leadership and originality based on research excellence. There must be clear evidence of international recognition in reaction engineering with reference to: originality, contribution to the advancement of knowledge, and reputation. Teaching ability at undergraduate and postgraduate levels is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1 September 2011, or soon thereafter.

Reader or University Senior Lecturer in Education in the Faculty of Education

Salary: £55,535, or £49,539–£52,556 a year.

The Faculty of Education is seeking to appoint an innovative, research-active Reader or University Senior Lecturer to join a leading international centre of educational research and teacher development.

The successful candidate will work with the Leadership for Learning (LfL) academic group. LfL works across a number of areas of learning and improvement, and explores their links to leadership. The group is keen to build up a programme of studies in its key areas of research which leads both to doctoral work and the enhancement of research capacity.

This position offers an outstanding opportunity for innovative, research-active educators working in the broad area of educational leadership to join a leading national and international Faculty for educational research, teacher development, and the study of education.

The successful applicant will be expected to make significant contributions to the Faculty’s teaching and research, related to one or more of the following areas: education policy, school and organizational leadership, school and organizational improvement, leadership for learning, professional and teacher leadership, aspects of student voice, global perspectives on leadership, and policy development. University Lectureship in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology

Salary: £36,862–£46,696 a year.

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer to work in the Department, which has a particular interest in research in the field of reaction engineering, but will welcome applications from candidates in any related research field.

The successful candidate will have an established publication record and will be expected to conduct world-class research commensurate with the Department’s international standing and research reputation. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a full contribution to all aspects of the Department’s teaching programmes, and the supervision of research students. The post is available from 1 September 2011, and the successful candidate will be expected to take up the appointment in good time for the 2011–12 academical year.

Appointments made at the University Lecturer level will be probationary for five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter.

University Lecturer in Psychology and Education in the Faculty of Education

Salary: £36,715–£46,510.

The Faculty of Education is looking for an innovative, research-active educator to join the Psychology and Education group within a leading national and international centre for educational research and teacher development.

Expertise is required in the following specific areas: (a) biological bases of behaviour/physiological psychology, including evolutionary perspectives; and (b) the use of quantitative, statistical methods in psychological and educational research. Teaching duties would relate to both undergraduate and postgraduate provision. The Faculty of Education runs a very successful M.Phil. course in Psychology and Education, with recruitment averaging 25 FTE a year, and the appointed Lecturer would be expected to make a major contribution to that course (which has British Psychological Society recognized status). Members of the Psychology and Education group also contribute to the Faculty’s provision in initial teacher education, which is regarded as outstanding.

University Lectureships in Statistics (two posts) in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (re-advertised)

Salary: £36,862–£46,696 a year.

Applications are invited for two University Lectureships in Statistics, to be held in the Statistical Laboratory, and filled by 1 September 2011 or by negotiation.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate an outstanding research record. While there are no formal restrictions as to research area, it is envisaged that the appointee will develop novel core statistical methodology, either generic or aimed at specific application areas. Current and planned partnerships include: biostatistics, machine learning, signal processing, physics, economics, etc. Applications from those with a strong statistical background in cognate subjects will be welcomed.

Three Temporary Lectureships in the Faculty of Economics

Salary: £36,862–£46,696 a year.

Applications are invited for three temporary Lectureships in the Faculty. Two temporary lectureships are available from 19 September 2011 until 31 August 2013 and one temporary lectureship is available from 1 September 2011 until 31 July 2014.

Strong applicants are being sought across all fields of economics. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. Degree by September 2011. Information Compliance Officer (Assistant Registrary) in the Registrary’s Office

Salary: £36,862–£46,696 a year; vacancy reference: AJ07877.

The post-holder will be the University’s principal officer dealing with all matters relating to UK information legislation (the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), and Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR)) but may also have an involvement in other compliance areas (such as records management, data storage) to meet the needs and obligations of the University and its subsidiaries. The post-holder will lead the determination of policy and strategic direction in this area, and be responsible for providing training and guidance. The post-holder will have an up-to-date and in-depth knowledge and understanding of the relevant UK legislation and regulatory processes, as he or she will also be responsible for the operational delivery of the University’s statutory obligations regarding the provision of information and for ensuring that members of staff have ready access to appropriate advice and guidance on their responsibilities in the information compliance area.

The post-holder will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have previous relevant experience in information compliance issues, preferably of three to five years’ duration gained within the HE sector. A relevant professional qualification or a legal background would be desirable.

The post-holder will be able to work, on her or his own initiative, to tight deadlines, to prioritize competing demands, and to deal with often complex and sensitive data with accuracy and appropriate confidentiality.

The post-holder will have excellent communication and presentational skills and be able to express ideas and information clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. They will also have experience of managing a team.

There is a requirement for applicants to complete a written test during the selection process. There is a probation period of six months.
