Isaac Newton Trust College Teaching Officers in the Faculty of History

In association with the Isaac Newton Trust, the Faculty of History wishes to appoint two twelve-hour a year Newton Trust Lecturers in Modern British History with effect from 1 October 2011. The post-holders will be expected to contribute to the teaching of British political and constitutional history 1700–1914, and to one of three specified subjects currently offered in Part II of the Historical Tripos: ‘The politics of gender’, ‘Culture and identity in Britain’s long eighteenth century’ and ‘Ireland since the famine’.

Detailed information about the terms and conditions of the Newton Trust Lectureship Scheme for College Teaching Officers can be downloaded from http://www.newtontrust.cam.ac.uk/cto/index.html.

Applications, comprising a full curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a letter from the applicant’s College giving approval in principle to participation in the scheme, should be sent to Mrs Joanne Pearson, HR Clerk, Faculty of History, West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9EF (email jen26@cam.ac.uk) by Tuesday, 30 November 2010. Applicants should request two referees to forward reports to Mrs Pearson by the same deadline.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Faculty of History

Salary: £23,566–£28,139; limit of tenure: two years.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in History, to begin as soon as possible in 2011. The post is in connection with a new project on ‘Sites of Asian interaction: networks, ideas, archives’, supported by the Isaac Newton Trust, and based at the Centre for History and Economics, Magdalene College. The project is concerned with how ideas travelled across Asia, and how they changed in the process; it is described in detail at http://www-histecon.kings.cam.ac.uk/sai/objective.html. It is associated with the programme on ‘Exchanges of economic, legal and political ideas’, supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; see http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~histecon/exel/objective.html.

The Fellowship is tenable for two years, and is supported by the Isaac Newton Trust. It is not associated with a fellowship of a Cambridge College, but can be combined with a non-stipendiary College Fellowship. The stipend, which can be pensionable, will depend on experience, but will not exceed £28,139 in the first year.

Further particulars are available at http://www-histecon.kings.cam.ac.uk/sai/index.html or by email to ihm22@cam.ac.uk. Applications, including a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, and the names and addresses of two referees, should be accompanied by a cover sheet which can be downloaded from: http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/. Referees should be asked to write at once direct to the Faculty of History. Completed applications and references should be sent for the attention of Joanne Pearson, Faculty of History, West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9EF, or by email to jen26@cam.ac.uk, to arrive by 8 December 2010.
