DOMUS B GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Merton College is offering two Domus B Graduate Scholarships in 2010. The Scholarships are intended to assist Home and EU students of outstanding academic excellence who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to study at the University of Oxford.

The Scholarships provide College and University fees and a maintenance grant of £11,500. Subject to satisfactory progress, the Scholarships will be tenable for three years in the case of direct entry doctoral programmes and four in cases where a preparatory Master’s course is required before the doctorate. Scholars are guaranteed College single accommodation (if required) for the first year, after which they can enter the graduate room ballot. Scholars must meet the costs of this accommodation themselves.

The competition is open to graduates of any university who can demonstrate that they satisfy all the following conditions. They:

• have a first class honours degree

• are ordinarily resident in the UK or EU

• have not done more than two years of postgraduate study or research, AND

• have, by 27 August 2010, been accepted to begin, but have not yet begun, a course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2010 in any of the subjects normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, except the M.B.A., M.Sc. in Financial Economics, and M.Sc. in Management Studies. For list of subjects normally acceptable see the link to Programmes of Study by College (http://www.ox.ac.uk/proxyadmissions/postgraduate_courses/college_guide/index.html).

• have no other funding which would allow them to take up this offer.

The College will consider applications from current Oxford students who are completing a Master’s programme in the summer of 2010, but candidates who have already begun their D.Phil. course are ineligible.

The closing date for receipt of applications for this competition is 27 August 2010. Applicants who have not been accepted as doctoral students by the relevant Faculty or Department of the university by 27 August 2010 will be rejected. Further particulars, including details of the applications process, can be downloaded from the Merton College website (http://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/index.shtml) or in case of difficulty may be obtained from the Admissions Officer, Merton College, Oxford, OX1 4JD, UK (email admissions@admin.merton.ox.ac.uk).

St Hugh’s College

RANDALL MacIVER JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Applications are invited for a Joanna Randall MacIver Junior Research Fellowship tenable for two years from October 2010 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and not renewable thereafter. The Fellowship is offered for research in the fields of Fine Art, Music or Literature of any nation in any period. The Fellow will be a member of the Senior Common Room.

The requirements of the post are to carry out research, but a candidate who is able to offer some tutorial teaching would be welcomed as we feel this integrates them with the life of the College. Applicants will be considered from women graduates only, in their second or subsequent year of doctoral research. Unless the circumstances are exceptional they should neither be newcomers to research nor established scholars. Although the Fellowship is intended for a relatively junior scholar, this refers to the stage a candidate has reached in her career, rather than to the age of the candidate. The College welcomes qualified candidates of all ages and will take into account the individual circumstances of each in selecting the successful candidates. The stipend will be in the region of £16,076 a year.

Further particulars can be found at http://www.st-hughs.ox.ac.uk/. The closing date for applications is Friday, 9 July 2010.
