Brasenose College

FIXED-TERM COLLEGE FELLOWSHIP IN POLITICS

The College proposes to elect a Fellow in Politics for a three-year term. The Fellowship will start on 1 October 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter. The person appointed will be required to carry out research in Politics and to teach undergraduates reading Politics in the Joint Honour Schools of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and History and Politics. The person appointed will also be required to take a full part in the organization of Politics teaching in the College, including undergraduate admissions and pastoral care of undergraduates reading Politics.

The salary will be in the range of £26,391 to £31,513 a year plus superannuation and additional benefits and allowances (including a housing allowance, currently £7,088 a year).

PROFESSORSHIP OF CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE (IN ASSOCIATION WITH GREEN TEMPLETON COLLEGE)

Applications are invited for a newly established Professorship in Cardiovascular Medicine in the Oxford University Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, a thriving Department which is committed to undertake research which impacts on clinical practice. The Professorship is associated with a Fellowship at Green Templeton College, which offers a distinctive, friendly, and supportive atmosphere.

The Professorship is a full-time post for a clinically qualified candidate and must be held in conjunction with an honorary (non-stipendiary) consultant clinical appointment.

The main Departmental responsibility of the appointee will be to undertake research. This will involve gaining research programme funding, leading a research group, and contributing substantially to the environment of academic excellence within the Department. The post-holder will also be expected to play a key role in College supervision and support of medical students.

The appointment will be on the national salary scale for clinical consultants and it is anticipated that the post-holder will also be eligible for an NHS Clinical Excellence Award.

IEOH MING PEI PROFESSORSHIP IN ISLAMIC ART AND ARCHITECTURE (IN ASSOCIATION WITH WOLFSON COLLEGE)

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. This new Professorship has been created by a generous joint donation from the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, and the Qatar Museums Authority. The post will enhance provision in the study of Islamic art and architecture in the Khalili Research Centre of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Oxford. A governing body Fellowship at Wolfson College is attached to the chair. The Professor will be seconded to the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies in Doha for eight weeks in their autumn semester for a period of ten years.

The person appointed will have an international reputation based upon an outstanding record in publication, research, and teaching, and will have demonstrated effective and successful leadership in the field of Islamic art and architecture. Oxford’s position as a major global university and as one of the leading international centres for the study of Islamic art and architecture will provide an excellent base for the new appointee’s own research and scholarship.

The Ieoh Ming Pei Professor will be able and ready to contribute to the primary mission of the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies by studying and illuminating the role of Islamic art and architecture in contemporary Muslim societies, and to develop joint projects with the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.
