University Lecturer in the Department of Genetics

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in the Department of Genetics, from scientists who have demonstrated the potential to become leaders in their field of research. The Department particularly wishes to attract candidates within the areas of quantitative, population, or evolutionary genetics. The successful candidate will interact with existing members of the Department in both research and teaching. In addition, the research environment of Cambridge offers opportunities to establish collaborative links with members of other biological science Departments, Faculties (including Mathematics and Medicine), and nearby institutes such as the European Bioinformatics Institute and the Sanger Centre. As a University Lecturer the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the teaching and research activities of the Department, including the training of postgraduate students and post-doctoral Fellows, and undergraduate teaching in the Faculty of Biology.

The salary will be in the range of £36,532 to £46,278 a year. Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter.

Clinical Lecturers/Specialist Registrars in General Surgery (one post in Transplantation and one in Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic Surgery) in the Department of Surgery

Applications are invited from candidates for these posts to take up appointment as soon as possible after 1 October 2009. Applicants should have a higher degree (M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent) and should have had suitable experience and training, and be of the standing required for an honorary contract of service with the NHS Executive Eastern Region as a Specialist Registrar (NTNA). The successful candidates will be required to undertake teaching and clinical duties, and also to carry out research. The appointments will be for four years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The salary will be in the range of £28,930 to £50,219 a year.

Assistant Registrary in the Academic Division

The post-holder will be a key member of the Planning and Resource Allocation Office and will manage the allocation of operational resources to Faculties, Departments, and other institutions throughout the University for staff and other expenditure.

Communications Specialist (Technical Officer) in the University Computing Service

The University Computing Service is seeking a Communications Specialist in the Telecommunications Office to provide technical support and customer service for the users of the University's Telephone System. The role will involve the maintenance of the core systems, administration of software and telephony devices, and the provision of direct support to end users.

Applicants should be educated to good first-degree standard or equivalent, in a subject with a relevant technical component. Applicants should also have knowledge and experience of both modern VoIP and traditional telephony, preferably at an enterprise level. Solid work-related experience of the setup and maintenance of computer servers is required, and evidence of a good track record of technical and organizational accomplishments will be necessary.

The post-holder will have strong communications skills with the ability to liaise successfully with users and network providers at all levels, and will be required to develop and maintain web pages. Experience of a higher-educational or public sector service environment would be advantageous.

This is a permanent appointment at Grade 7, subject to a nine-month satisfactory probation period, on a pensionable salary scale of £27,183 to £35,469 a year, with initial salary depending on experience. Temporary Teaching Associate in Old Testament Studies in the Faculty of Divinity

Applications are invited for a fixed-term Teaching Associate in Old Testament Studies in the Faculty of Divinity for 18 months beginning on 1 October 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate should have expertise in the field of Old Testament Studies and should be able to deliver high quality lectures. He or she will be expected to contribute to the teaching of the Old Testament (including Biblical Hebrew) at undergraduate and M.Phil. level.

Candidates should preferably be able to take up the post on 1 October 2009, but a slightly later date may be negotiable. The appointment will be subject to a six-month probationary period. The salary will be in the range of £27,183 to £35,469 a year (Grade 7).

Teaching experience would be an advantage, but the post could also suit someone who has recently submitted or is about to submit a Ph.D. thesis in the field of Old Testament Studies.

Temporary Lecturer (part-time) in the Department of Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience

Applications are invited for the post of Temporary Lecturer (50%), which is available from 1 October 2009 for one year, with a possible extension of a further year. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. Degree in biology or a veterinary qualification, and will be able to deliver undergraduate lectures and practical classes in reproductive, systems, and endocrine physiology to medical, veterinary, and science students. He or she will carry out teaching-related administration including examining, course organization, and committee work as appropriate. There will be an opportunity to contribute to the Department's existing research programme (see http://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/research/). The Department is looking for an effective and enthusiastic teacher with good organizational and people skills.

The full-time pensionable salary scale is £36,532 to £46,278 a year.
