University Lecturer in Architecture in the Department of Architecture

The Department of Architecture wishes to appoint a University Lecturer to take up an appointment from 1 October 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter. The person appointed will have an architectural qualification, will have experience of the studio teaching of architectural design, and will have published in the field of architectural history and theory, preferably on aspects of modern architecture. The salary will be in the range of £36,532 to £46,278 a year.

Lecturer in Speech and Language Technology (fixed-term) in the Department of Engineering

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term Lectureship in Speech and Language Technology in the Machine Intelligence Laboratory. The successful candidate will take up the appointment on 1 September 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Machine Intelligence Laboratory has a vibrant group working in the areas of continuous speech recognition and automatic transcription, spoken dialogue systems, speech synthesis, and statistical machine translation.

The successful candidate will have or be expected to develop a record of world-class research commensurate with the Department's international reputation and top-rank research rating. Teaching responsibilities will include contributing to undergraduate and graduate courses primarily in the area of speech and language technology, supervising final-year projects, and supervising graduate students.

The appointment will be for two years and the Department's probationary scheme will apply to the successful candidate. The salary will be in the range of £36,532 to £46,278 a year.

Temporary Lecturer in the Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy is seeking to appoint a temporary Lecturer in Philosophy from 1 October 2009. The limit of tenure is nine months, ending on 30 June 2010, covering the period resulting from Dr Arif Ahmed's award of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship.

The salary will be £36,532 a year (pro rata for the period of tenure).

This vacancy presents an excellent opportunity, particularly for an early career scholar, to gain teaching experience and research support within a prestigious philosophy department. Applicants' research specialty may be in any area of philosophy. Ability to teach at undergraduate level in one or more of the following areas is essential: Formal and Philosophical Logic, Wittgenstein, or History of Modern Philosophy. There may also be opportunities to teach in other areas.

The person appointed will be required to give 40 lectures, to supervise graduate students, and to examine at both undergraduate and graduate level.

Research Associate in Early Modern French in the Department of French

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in Early Modern French Philosophy, in the Department of French (with a limit of tenure of three years). The vacancy arises in relation to a new research project entitled Method and variation: narrative in Early Modern French philosophy, funded by the Leverhulme Trust and the Isaac Newton Trust. The post-holder will be expected to engage in research in areas relating to this project alongside its Principal Investigator, Dr Emma Gilby. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the teaching within the Department, giving some lectures in undergraduate courses in Early Modern French, acting as a convenor for a paper in Early Modern French Thought, supervising M.Phil. work in relevant fields, and assisting in Tripos examinations. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. Degree and a specialization in Early Modern French. They should have a strong profile, both in terms of research and publications, and with the promise to bring an outstanding input to the Department of French. Potential applicants should also have a native or excellent non-native command of French and English.

Investment Analyst in the Investment Office

Applications are invited for the post of Investment Analyst within the Investment Office.

Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer and working closely with two Investment Directors, the main focus of the post is on the analysis of asset classes, due diligence on external investment managers, and the subsequent monitoring of these managers once they have received an allocation from the University's investment portfolios. The Investment Analyst will form relationships with a wide range of relevant external investment managers, consultants, and advisers, based in the UK and internationally, and will have a major impact on the investments decisions taken for the Cambridge University Endowment Fund and other assets managed by the Investment Office, as well as investment performance and the perceptions of benefactors.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have a relevant Master's degree or experience working in the investment sector. An investment or other professional qualification would be advantageous. He or she will have advanced mathematical skills and analytical ability and an enquiring mind. He or she will have good written and other communication and presentation skills, and the ability to form and maintain a multitude of professional relationships. The salary will be in the range of £36,532 to £46,278 a year.

Judith E. Wilson Fellowships in the Faculty of English (two posts)

The Judith E. Wilson Fellowships, held within the Faculty of English, are designed to enable practising poets, playwrights, and theatre practitioners to spend a period as members of the Faculty of English, bringing together the practices of poetry and drama and their academic study. The cost of the Fellowships is met from the Judith E. Wilson Fund, formed from a donation to the Faculty of English by Judith E. Wilson, a life-long friend of Dame Edith Evans.

Judith E. Wilson Fellowship in Poetry

The Fellowship is available for nine months from 15 September 2009. The salary will be in the range of £36,532 to £46,278 a year. The Fellow is expected to reside in Cambridge during that period and will be invited to take some part in the work of the Faculty, by arranging workshops or readings (including, in term, three hours of formal contact time for students a week), and to pursue her or his own projects. The Judith E. Wilson Committee will discuss a possible programme of work with the successful candidate.

Judith E. Wilson Faculty Research Fellowship in Drama and Performance

The Faculty of English also wishes to appoint a Research Fellow for two years from 1 October 2009. The salary will be in the range of £27,183 to £35,469 a year. The post provides an opportunity for an outstanding early career researcher to gain substantial research and teaching experience within the Faculty, developing her or his curriculum vitae, and improving her or his prospects of going on to permanent lecturing posts after the Fellowship, which is non-renewable.
