Graces submitted to the Regent House on 28 January 2009

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 6 February 2009.

1. That a Martin C. Faulkes Bell Fund be established in the University, to be governed by the following regulations:1

Martin C. Faulkes Bell Fund

1. The sum of £350,000 received from Dr Martin C. Faulkes shall form a fund called the Martin C. Faulkes Bell Fund.

2. The Fund shall be administered by three Managers, who shall comprise:
(a) The Vice-Chancellor (or a duly appointed deputy) who shall be chairman;
(b) The University Bellringer;
(c) one person nominated by the Parish of Great St Mary's.

3. The first charge on the capital and the income of the Bell Fund shall be a payment to the Parish of Great St Mary's Church to cover the costs of casting and installing a new ring of bells and the rehanging of existing bells (together the 'Bells') in Great St Mary's, the University Church, to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the University, together with such additional costs relating to or consequent upon such hanging or rehanging of the Bells as are agreed between the University and Dr Faulkes.

4. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 3, the remaining capital and income of the Fund shall be used to provide grants towards the maintenance of the Bells from time to time as the Managers shall determine.

2. That the recommendations in paragraph 5 of the Report of the General Board, dated 3 December 2008, on the establishment of a Professorship of Molecular Pathology (Reporter, p. 343) be approved.

3. That the recommendations in paragraph 8 of the Report of the Council, dated 15 December 2008, on Homerton College (Reporter, p. 357) be approved.

4. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the Council, dated 24 December 2008, on the construction of a new building for the Genetics Field Station (Reporter, p. 377) be approved.

5. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 24 December 2008, on the establishment of a Professorship of Clinical Microbiology (Reporter, p. 378) be approved.

6. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 24 December 2008, on the establishment of a Readership in the Department of Chemistry (Reporter, p. 379) be approved.
