Training Services Manager (Computer Officer) in the University Computing Service

The University Computing Service has a vacancy for a Training Services Manager. The successful applicant will have overall responsibility for the Computing Service's IT training programme, its content and provision, and its associated services. The Computing Service offers a large range of instructor-led courses, from advanced technical courses aimed at IT support staff to courses aimed at both staff and students with various levels of ability. Courses may also be run on behalf of other Departments or Colleges. The Training Services Manager also manages facilities and resources for teaching that are shared by several Departments.

The successful applicant will have a good degree or equivalent and be an excellent trainer, and must be able to communicate effectively with computer users at all levels in a variety of situations. A broad knowledge of IT is required, including experience of Microsoft Windows systems, Apple Macintoshes, Unix systems, and common desktop applications. It is expected that the holder of the post will have substantial experience in IT training and support, and must be capable of writing technical documentation. They must have good interpersonal, diplomatic, and organizational skills, and must be self-motivated and capable of working unsupervised. They must be capable of developing the training skills of staff at all levels, including senior staff of the Computing Service. The post-holder must have managerial skills and be capable of managing a budget. Experience of working in an academic support environment would be a distinct advantage.

This is a permanent appointment, subject to a nine-month satisfactory probation period, on a salary scale of £36,532 to £46,278 a year, with initial salary depending on experience.
