form and conduct of examinations, 2007-08

Notices by Faculty Boards, or other bodies concerned, of changes to the form and conduct of certain examinations to be held in 2007-08, by comparison with those examinations in 2007, are published below. Complete details of the form and conduct of all examinations are available from the Faculties or Departments concerned.

Oriental Studies Tripos, 2008: Corrections

Further to the Notice published on 28 November 2007 (p. 291), the following corrections have been received.

Japanese Studies

The entries for J. 2 'Modern Japanese texts, 1' and J. 3 'Modern Japanese texts, 2' were incorrect. The form of the examination has not changed and should read as follows:

J. 2. Modern Japanese texts, 1

This paper consists of two sections. In Section A candidates will be required to translate one unseen passage from Japanese to English. In Section B candidates will be required to translate from Japanese into English two out of three passages taken from texts covered during the year.

J. 3. Modern Japanese texts, 2

This paper will consist of two sections. In Section A candidates will be required to translate one unseen passage from Japanese to English. In Section B candidates will be required to translate from Japanese into English two out of three passages taken from non-fiction texts covered during the year.

Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies

The entry for Is. 3 'Middle Eastern and Islamic literatures' should read as follows:

Is. 3. Middle Eastern and Islamic literatures

The paper will consist of two sections. Section A consists of four passages (not for translation), of which candidates will be required to choose two for discussion and analysis. Section B consists of six essay questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt two. All questions carry equal marks.
