The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has received with gratitude a benefaction of £25,000 from Professor D. H. Mellor, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy (1896), as the first part of a total benefaction of £100,000 pledged under Gift Aid arrangements. Under current tax rates the University will receive £128,205 in total. The income of the benefaction will be used to support the Professorship of Philosophy (1896).
The Council are submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 1, p. 653) for the approval of regulations to govern the endowment of the Professorship.
