Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 21 February 2004

The Council have sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on Saturday, 21 February 2004.1

1. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon Dame MARGARET JOAN ANSTEE, D.C.M.G., M.A., formerly Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Organization, Honorary Fellow of Newnham College.

2. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon Sir ALEC NIGEL BROERS, Ph.D., Sc.D., F.R.S., F.R.Eng., President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering, Vice-Chancellor Emeritus, Fellow, and formerly Master, of Churchill College, Honorary Fellow of Gonville and Caius and Trinity Colleges.

3. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon HOWARD ROBERT HORVITZ, Nobel Laureate, David H. Koch Professor of Biology in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, formerly of the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology.

4. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon Sir DAVID JOHN WEATHERALL, F.R.C.P., F.R.C.P.E., F.R.S., Regius Professor Emeritus of Medicine in the University of Oxford, formerly Student of Christ Church.

5. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon QUENTIN SAXTON BLAKE, O.B.E., M.A., R.D.I., Visiting Professor in the Royal College of Art, Honorary Fellow of Downing College, Artist and Illustrator.

6. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon PETER ROBERT LAMONT BROWN, F.B.A., F.R.Hist.S., Rollins Professor of History in Princeton University.

7. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon DAVID LOCKWOOD, C.B.E., M.A., F.B.A., formerly Professor of Sociology and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Essex, formerly University Lecturer in the Faculty of Economics and Politics and Fellow of St John's College.

8. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Music honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon JOHN PHILIP WILLIAM DANKWORTH, C.B.E., F.R.A.M., Musician.

9. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Music honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon Dame CLEO LAINE, Vocalist and Actress.
