Philosophical Society

On Monday, 24 February, at 8.30 p.m. in the Cockcroft Lecture Theatre, New Museums Site, Professor Keith Glover, FRS, of the Department of Engineering, will deliver a lecture entitled Almost everything under control: feedback by design. All who are interested are invited.

At a meeting held on 10 February 2003, Professor T. M. Cox, President, was in the Chair.

Seventy-nine Fellows were elected and two were re-elected.

The William Bate Hardy Prize for 2001 was presented jointly to Professor J. Smith, Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK, and Dr M. Neuberger, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.

Dr Michael Neuberger, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, delivered a lecture entitled DNA deamination and the generation of antibody diversity. A vote of thanks was moved by Professor Douglas Fearon, FRS.

Sir Martin Sweeting, OBE, FREng, FRS, of the University of Surrey, will deliver a lecture entitled Less is more in the Wolfson Lecture Theatre, Churchill College, on Monday, 3 March at 7.30 p.m. All who are interested are invited to attend. This is a joint meeting with the Society for the Application of Research.
