Gladstone Memorial Trust

TRAVEL AWARDS

The Gladstone Memorial Trustees propose to offer six or more Travel Awards for the year 2001. These Awards are intended to give men and women in their first and second undergraduate years at Oxford or Cambridge an opportunity to travel abroad and extend their knowledge of foreign countries. They are not intended to support scientific expeditions or projects connected with academic courses or research. In making their selection the Trustees will pay regard to the candidates' interests outside their studies, as well as to their academic records. The Awards will be of up to £500, each paid in Sterling.

Applications from Cambridge candidates should be sent to Dr Michael Proctor, Trinity College, Cambridge, CB2 1TQ. They must be accompanied by a statement incorporating (a) the use to which it is proposed to put the award, including an itinerary; (b) the applicant's academic and other qualifications; (c) the applicant's financial resources; and (d) brief details of foreign travel experience. A letter of recommendation from a Tutor and two unstamped self-addressed envelopes should also be included (the letter may be sent direct to Dr Proctor).

The closing date for applications is 12 March 2001. Candidates placed on the short list will be invited to attend for interview in London on Monday, 30 April 2001. Their expenses will be refunded. No special application forms are required, and Dr Procter may be consulted for further information and advice.
