CASE QUOTA STUDENTSHIP IN RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY

Applications are invited from persons expecting to graduate in 2000 with a first or upper second class honours degree for a Case Quota Studentship in Raman Spectroscopy, under the supervision of Professor R. J. H. Clark. The industrial partner is Renishaw plc who are developers and manufacturers of state-of-the-art spectrometer systems. The project involves the study by Raman, infrared, and electronic spectroscopy of a range of primarily inorganic systems, amenable to structural, electronic, and vibrational characterization. The project will include studies on pigments, pigment degradation products, metal-metal bonded systems, surface species, and doped nanotubes, and will include microscopy (Raman and polarized light) and possibly developmental work in remote sensing of artwork. Applicants should preferably have a strong interest and background in spectroscopy, inorganic chemistry, and materials science.

Applications, including the names and addresses of at least two referees, should be sent to Professor R. J. H. Clark, FRS, Department of Chemistry, University College London, 20 Gordon Street, London, WC1H 0AJ.
