VACANCIES

Babraham Institute

THREE-YEAR RESEARCH SCIENTIST POSITION

A postdoctoral position funded under the BBSRC 'Genomics in Animal Function Initiative' is available to study the functional interactions amongst imprinted genes in the mouse. The project will examine the function of newly-identified genes using gene targeting and transgenic approaches, with particular emphasis on their roles and interactions in endocrine and neurological phenotypes. The post will be held in the Laboratory of Developmental Genetics and Imprinting. Candidates should preferably have experience and/or a genuine interest in mouse developmental genetics/gene targeting. The position is available immediately. Informal enquiries to Gavin Kelsey (e-mail gavin.kelsey@bbsrc.ac.uk) are welcome. (Ref. GK/G/ST)

THREE-YEAR POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

Applications are invited for an experienced molecular biologist to examine estrogen-regulated genes in the brain and gonadotrophin-releasing hormone neuronal phenotype. Studies will be undertaken in the mouse and utilize knockout and promoter-driven transgenic lines currently existing in the laboratory. The microarray work is being performed in collaboration with a major pharmaceutical company and a USA-based laboratory, and will require the candidate to spend up to two months to a year away from Cambridge. Experience in the field of neurobiology is not essential for candidates with a strong background in molecular biology. Previous experience with microarray techniques and/or single cell amplification methods will be advantageous. Further information is available from Dr A. Herbison (e-mail allan.herbison@bbsrc.ac.uk). (Ref. AEH/G/ST)

In each case, the starting salary is in the range £17,800 to £22,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Please send a curriculum vitae, with the names and addresses of three referees, to the Personnel Officer, Babraham Institute, Cambridge, CB2 4AT (e-mail babraham.personnel@bbsrc.ac.uk), quoting the relevant reference number. The closing date for completed application forms is 9 June 2000. An application form and further details will be supplied upon receipt of a curriculum vitae.

DEPUTY (CORPORATE AFFAIRS)

The Institute is currently undergoing a challenging development to bring like-minded biomedical/biotechnological commercial ventures to work with the Institute. The Deputy (Corporate Affairs) acts as Deputy Press Officer and is specifically responsible for Community and Education Liaison. Applicants should have a biological science degree and a minimum of three years' management or senior administrative experience. Experience of working in a corporate affairs or press office and/or in an academic, government, or charity funding organization would be very useful. The post is initially for five years. The salary (c. £25,000) will be determined according to qualifications and experience.

Please telephone 01223 496000 or e-mail babraham.personnel@bbsrc.ac.uk for an information pack and application form, quoting Ref. DP/P. The closing date for completed applications is 1 June 2000. Information about the Institute is available on its website (http://www.babraham.bbsrc.ac.uk/).

The Institute is supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and is an equal opportunities employer.
