FIVE-YEAR RESEARCH SCIENTIST POSITION

A Research Scientist is required to work in the Laboratory of Lymphocyte Signalling and Development (http://www.bi.bbsrc.ac.uk/WORLD/biology/molimm/lympho/lymphsig.html). The position involves two main responsibilities: firstly, to act as manager in overseeing the daily running of the technical aspects of the laboratory; and secondly, to carry out a research programme investigating the role of tyrosine phosphatases in T cell signal transduction and development. The post would suit someone with organizational abilities and with a strong background in biochemical immunology and cell biology. Previous experience of working with transgenics would be a particular advantage. The position is open to candidates possessing a first or upper second class honours degree in a relevant subject and with at least two years' postgraduate laboratory experience. The position might also be suitable for a postdoctoral research worker who wishes to settle into a long-term research field. However, it should be emphasized that the position includes some duties of a routine nature. The salary will be in the range £17,100-£22,000 a year. (Ref. JG/ST)

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

A one-year 'start-up' postdoctoral Fellowship is available in the Laboratory of Lymphocyte Signalling and Development to work on a project investigating the molecular mechanisms of T cell transformation using a novel thymic lymphoma transgenic mouse model. The position would particularly suit someone with previous experience of T cell signal transduction and/or working with transgenics. It is expected that the Fellowship will develop into a four-year position by means of three further years of grant funding. The salary will be in the range £17,800-£18,400 a year. (Ref. MB/ST)

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

A one-year 'start-up' postdoctoral Fellowship is available in the Laboratory of Lymphocyte Signalling and Development to work on a project investigating negative signalling pathways which down-regulate T cell functions. The project utilizes chimaeric receptors and cell-lines expressing these receptors are already established. It is expected that the Fellowship will develop into a four-year position by means of three further years of grant funding. The starting salary for this post is £17,800 a year. (Ref. ED/ST)

Informal enquiries about these positions may be made to Dr Denis Alexander (tel. +44 (0)1223 496654, fax +44 (0)1223 496023, e-mail Denis.Alexander@bbsrc.ac.uk). Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, naming three referees, to the Personnel Officer, Babraham Institute, Cambridge, CB2 4AT (e-mail babraham.personnel@bbsrc.ac.uk), quoting the appropriate reference number. An application form will be supplied upon receipt of a curriculum vitae.

POSTDOCTORAL MOLECULAR BIOLOGIST

A vacancy is available in the Molecular Immunology Programme for an experienced postdoctoral scientist to conduct a project on gene targeting in the immune system. The post will be funded for three years by a BBSRC Project Grant. Applicants must have considerable expertise in molecular biology and a strong background in biochemistry or immunology. The starting salary will be in the range £17,800-£22,000 a year. Further details and application forms are available from the Personnel Officer (tel. 01223 496000, e-mail babraham.personnel@bbsrc.ac.uk). Please apply by 3 May 2000, quoting ref. PK/ST/3.

The Institute is supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and is an equal opportunities employer.
