Graces submitted to the Regent House on 22 March 2000

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 31 March 2000.

1. That the regulations for University Composition Fees be amended, with effect from 1 September 2000, as follows:1

By amending the entry for the course leading to the examination for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education so as to read:

2. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 5 of the Second Annual Report, dated 23 February 2000, of the General Board on the establishment of personal Professorships and Readers (Reporter, p. 496) be approved and that, in connection with Recommendation II, the General Board be authorized to appoint the person for whom the establishment of the Readership is proposed, and with the substitution of the word 'determine' for the word 'announce' in Recommendation III.2

3. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 5 of the Report, dated 9 February 2000, of the General Board on the re-establishment of the Professorship of Aerothermal Technology (Reporter, p. 496) be approved.

4. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 6 of the Report, dated 9 February 2000, of the General Board on the establishment of a Professorship of Behavioural Science (Reporter, p. 497) be approved.

5. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 6 of the Report, dated 9 February 2000, of the General Board on the establishment of a second Professorship of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Reporter, p. 498) be approved.

6. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 5 of the Report, dated 9 February 2000, of the General Board on the establishment of a Professorship of Psychiatry (Reporter, p. 499) be approved.

7. That the Annual Report of the Council be approved.3

8. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 40 of the Joint Report of the Council and of the General Board, dated 13 and 1 December 1999, on new arrangements for additional, discretionary pay awards to non-clinical academic and academic-related officers in non-professorial grades and to the holders of analogous unestablished posts (Reporter, p. 240) be approved.4

9. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 18 of the Joint Report of the Council and of the General Board, dated 28 and 25 February 2000, on the Cambridge-MIT Institute (Reporter, p. 491) be approved.5

The Secretary of State for Education and Employment has recently announced the fees for home and EU students for 2000-01; in most cases fees have been increased by 2.5 per cent. A similar increase is proposed for overseas students. No information is yet available about the fees to be charged in 2000-01 for categories U-Y (undergraduate students from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man). The opportunity is taken to correct an error in the fee category for candidates for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
