Darwin College

ADRIAN RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Darwin College proposes to elect a stipendiary Adrian Research Fellow from l October 2000. The Fellowship is available for research within the field of Continental European Studies. The scope of Continental European Studies excludes work principally or exclusively focused on British material. Otherwise, candidates may be engaged in research on any aspect (historical, literary, linguistic, political, economic, or social) within the area of Continental European Studies, either as specialists in particular fields or countries, or comparativists undertaking comparative studies between fields or between countries. The Fellowship is tenable for three years with the possibility of renewal for a fourth. Candidates should be aged not more than thirty-five on l October 2000 and have been awarded the Ph.D. or an equivalent degree, or should be able to present to the electors substantial amounts of written work, published or unpublished. However, consideration will be given to persons over this age if they began their research at a significantly later age than usual, and to those who have interrupted their careers for family or other reasons.

The successful candidate will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the College, including the obligation to reside in Cambridge for at least two-thirds of each University term, unless excused by the Governing Body. The Adrian Research Fellow will become a member of the Governing Body and will have Fellows' dining rights as well as the entitlement to a College room or flat, subject to availability, for which a charge will be made. An annual allowance will be available for travel and research expenses.

MICROSOFT RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The Governing Body of Darwin College Cambridge and Microsoft Research Limited jointly invite applications for a stipendiary Research Fellowship supporting research in the field of Adaptive Computing (including topics such as pattern recognition, probabilistic inference, statistical learning theory, and computer vision). Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or should be expecting to have submitted their thesis prior to commencement of the Fellowship. The Fellowship will be tenable for two years commencing 1 October 2000 or on a date to be agreed. The successful candidate will work at the Microsoft Research Laboratory in Cambridge.
