Department of Geography

DEPARTMENTAL ADMINISTRATOR

Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Administrator in the Department of Geography, from 1 April 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Administrator is responsible to the Head of Department for many aspects of management and administration, including supervision of assistant staff, of finance, of grants from outside bodies, of Departmental facilities, and of arrangements for teaching and research. The post carries certain additional responsibilities in relation to the Scott Polar Research Institute and the Faculty Board of Earth Sciences and Geography. Previous relevant experience in a senior administrative post, preferably in a higher education establishment with a research grant portfolio, and proven ability in managing resources and staff are essential qualifications. Prospective candidates for this office should normally be educated to degree level.

Appointment will be for an initial period of three years, renewable for a further two. At the end of this five-year period the nature of the post will be reviewed. The salary is in the range £21,815 to £26,523 a year.
