University offices: Vacancies

The University follows an equal opportunities policy and has a policy on arrangements for part-time work.

Applications are invited for the following University offices:

University Lecturer in the Faculty of English

University Lecturer in the Faculty of English, in American Literature, to take up appointment from 1 October 1999, or as soon as possible thereafter. The vacancy has arisen following the death of Professor Tony Tanner. Applications are welcome from specialists in American Literature of any period, but preference may be given to those with an interest in literature of the nineteenth century. Appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £20,107 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £31,010.

Computer Officer in the Faculty of History

Computer Officer, Grade II, in the Faculty of History to take up appointment on 1 April 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Computer Officer is responsible for the development and maintenance of computing facilities in the Faculty and Seeley Library. Current projects in the Faculty include the extension of the ethernet and the computerization of examination marking, the development of a statistical information database for graduates, and the development of administrative IT. The appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time or, when appropriate, to the retiring age.

The pensionable stipend for a Computer Officer, Grade II, is £22,726 a year, rising by four annual increments to £26,523.
