Report of the General Board on the procedure for the consideration of applications for the establishment of personal Professorships and Readerships in 1999 and subsequent years: Notice

The Council have considered the remarks made at the Discussion of this Report on 10 November 1998 (Reporter, p. 167), and have referred them to the General Board.

In the light of the views expressed by speakers at the Discussion, and in view of the likelihood that a ballot will be called on any Grace for the approval of the recommendations of the Report, the General Board have concluded with great reluctance that they have no alternative but to suspend the intended promotions exercise for the current year. The Board will give detailed consideration in the near future to the remarks made at the Discussion, and will issue a further statement as soon as possible.
