Report of the General Board on the recruitment, reward, and retention of academic and academic-related officers: Notice

23 November 1998

In their brief statement appended to this Report (Reporter, 1997-98, p. 814) the Council drew attention to the proposal contained in their Report of 27 April 1998, for the establishment of a Syndicate to consider the structure of academic offices in the University, etc. The Council indicated that, if that proposal was approved by the Regent House, the General Board's Report would be referred to the Syndicate for further consideration.

As a result of the recent ballot, the proposal for the establishment of a Syndicate has been rejected (see Reporter, 1998-99, p. 151). The General Board's Report was discussed on 7 July, and the Board's reply to the remarks made at that Discussion was published on 21 October (ibid. p. 54). The Board now wish to bring forward the recommendations of their Report for approval by the Regent House; they have therefore asked the Council to submit Graces to the Regent House for this purpose, and the Council have agreed to do so (Graces 7-10, pp. 188-9).
