English Tripos, Part I, 1999: Notice

The Faculty Board of English give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 1999, the form of the examination for Part I of the English Tripos will be changed, as follows:

Paper 6.  Literary criticism

This paper will be divided into three sections, as follows: Section A, The Language of Literature; Section B, Critics and Critical Issues; Section C, Practical Criticism. Section B will contain questions on the specified topic 'The Author'. Candidates will be able to draw on a range of work on the principles and practice of literary criticism, without historical or linguistic restriction, but only in relation to the specified topic.
