Department of Engineering

UNESTABLISHED LECTURESHIP IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

A vacancy exists in the Department of Engineering for a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering. The Lectureship is unestablished (the post at present does not lead to tenure) and is for a fixed term of five years, with an initial appointment for three years and the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The position, which is to be filled as soon as possible, offers a young academic the opportunity of gaining teaching and research experience in one of the world's leading university Engineering Schools. The person appointed would be encouraged to apply for an established position should a suitable vacancy occur.

The Lecturer would be required to teach, demonstrate, and examine, principally in the first two years of the course and mainly in the subject areas of electronics and electrical circuits. The person appointed will have excellent communication skills and an active record of excellence in research. Preference will be given to candidates whose research is in one or more of the following areas: photovoltaic energy conversion, power electronics, or electrical machines, which are the fields of particular interest to the Department's electrical power group led by Professor G. A. J. Amaratunga. Applications would also be welcome from candidates who are able to satisfy the teaching requirements of the post and who can demonstrate research excellence in areas such as opto-electronics, photonics and sensors, semiconductor devices, and nano-scale technology.

The starting salary is £20,867 a year, rising by annual increments according to the University salary scales. Further information and an application form may be obtained by writing to the Secretary of the Faculty Board of Engineering, Trumpington Street, Cambridge, CB2 1PZ (tel. 01223 332615, fax 01223 766364), to whom completed application forms should be sent so as to reach him not later than 31 December 1998. Details of the vacancy can be found on the Department's web page (http://www2.eng.cam.ac.uk/~rmo/gajaul.htm), and informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Amaratunga (e-mail ga@eng.cam.ac.uk, tel. 01223 332648).
