Director of the Institute of Criminology

The General Board hope soon to be in a position to appoint a new Director of the Institute of Criminology to take up appointment from 1 January 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate should have the appropriate managerial and administrative skills for this senior appointment, be able to provide strong academic leadership, and have the ability to build effective links between the Institute and other relevant organizations. The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University.

The present pensionable stipend is £42,857 a year.

Technical Officer in the Department of Physics

Technical Officer in the Department of Physics to take up appointment on 1 November 1998 or as soon as possible thereafter. The person appointed will supervise and co-ordinate microelectronic device processing facilities in the Microelectronics Research Centre, Cavendish Laboratory. The Technical Officer will also be expected to undertake research projects. A good technical education, at least to first-degree level, and a high level of experience are essential requirements. The person appointed would need to be familiar with a variety of microelectronic fabrication and inspection techniques, such as electron-beam lithography, dry etching and sputter deposition, and electron microscopy. The appointment will be for five years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Technical Officer is £17,570 a year, rising by five annual increments to £21,815.
