Graces submitted to the Regent House on 14 October 1998

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 115), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 23 October 1998.

1. That the table of fees and the schedule of courses appended to the regulations for University Composition Fees (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 160) be amended as set out in the Council's Notice dated 12 October 1998.1

2. That the regulations for Sir Bartle Frere's Memorial Fund (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 731) be amended as follows:

Regulation 6.

By replacing the words 'so as to arrive not later than the division of the Lent Term' by the words 'by a date specified by the Secretary General'.2

3. That the regulations for the Sheila Joan Smith Research Fund be amended, with effect from 1 August 1998, as follows:

Regulation 3.

By amending the regulation so as to read:

3. Any unapplied balance of the annual income of the Fund shall be either added to the capital of the Fund or accumulated for use as income in a subsequent year, as the Regius Professor of Physic may determine.3

4. That the regulations for the Stevenson Prizes be amended as follows:

Regulation 2.

By replacing the words 'Four Stevenson Prizes' by the words 'Three Stevenson Prizes'.

By replacing the sub-paragraphs (b)-(d) by the following sub-paragraphs (b) and (c):

(b) one Prize for distinction in the examination in Economics and Development;

(c) one Prize for distinction in the examination in Finance.4

5. That the regulations for the Worts Travelling Scholars Fund (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 861) be amended as follows:

Regulation 3.

By replacing the words 'so as to arrive before the division of the Lent Term' by the words 'by a date specified by the Secretary General'.2

2 The closing date for applications is currently fixed by Ordinance. In order to allow greater flexibility in the arrangements it is proposed to make provision for the date to be varied.

3 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 825. This Fund is administered by the Regius Professor of Physic. The present regulations require unexpended income to be added to the capital of the Fund. In order to allow greater flexibility in the use of the Fund, it is proposed to give the Regius Professor discretion to carry forward income for use in a future year.
