Clinical Lecturer/Honorary Specialist Registrar in Respiratory Medicine or Allergy in the Department of Medicine

Applications are invited for an NIHR-funded Clinical Lectureship (Honorary Specialist Registrar) in Respiratory Medicine or Allergy to be held in the Division of Respiratory Medicine. The post will carry an NTN in Respiratory Medicine or Allergy, and is suitable for applicants with MRCP or equivalent who have gained or are in the process of gaining a research based higher degree and who have completed a substantial proportion of their Respiratory or Allergy training. The post offers the opportunity to pursue a further period of research in a variety of clinical or laboratory based disciplines whilst completing clinical training, and is ideally suited to a candidate wishing to progress to a senior academic position. Teaching will form an integral part of the post and include acting as a Clinical Supervisor to a group of students. Clinical training will be based at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and for a respiratory trainee can include GIM if required. The post is funded for four years and is available from 1 August 2009. The salary will be in the range of £30,231 to £52,346 a year.

Director of the Centre of African Studies

Expressions of interest are invited for the role of Director of the Centre of African Studies at the University of Cambridge. The Centre was established in 1965 by Dr Audrey Richards and supports teaching on Africa at the University through its library and through its seminar series. It also acts as a platform for interdisciplinary research, bringing the University's Africanists together with scholars from African, American, and European universities. The Centre hosts the Smuts Fellow in African Studies, a three-year post funded by the Smuts Memorial Fund, and has funding from the Leverhulme Trust and Isaac Newton Trust for a five-year fellowship programme bringing African scholars to Cambridge. The Centre is also convening an M.Phil. course in African Studies and will start accepting applications from October 2009. The Centre operates independently of any Faculty or Department, under the guidance of the Management Committee, to whom the Director is answerable. The Centre is a member of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Director acts as the Head of the Centre, developing the Centre's programmes and activities, overseeing the day-to-day running of the Centre, and advising on long-term policy. Fundraising will form a significant part of the Director's role.

The Director must be a University officer, from any School within the University, with wide-ranging interdisciplinary interests. He or she will command strong people skills, an ability in administration, and experience in the key area of fundraising.

The appointment is for a period of five years. The Director will receive a pensionable additional payment for administrative responsibility of £3,203 a year. It is hoped that the successful candidate will take up the Directorship on 1 January 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Postcolonial Latin-American and Caribbean Literature in the Faculty of English

The Faculty of English and Centre of Latin-American Studies wish to appoint a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in postcolonial Latin-American and Caribbean literature for two years from 1 October 2009. The post provides an opportunity for an outstanding early career researcher to gain substantial research and teaching experience within the Faculty and Centre, developing her or his curriculum vitae and improving her or his prospects of going on to permanent lecturing posts after the Fellowship, which is non-renewable.

The salary for the post will be in the range of £27,183 to £35,469 a year. The limit of tenure for the post is until 30 September 2011.
