Finance Manager (Senior Assistant Treasurer) in the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences (Finance Division)

The Finance Division is looking to appoint a Finance Manager to join the Financial Planning and Analysis section of the Division. The Financial Planning and Analysis team has responsibility for preparing budgetary information and analysis and providing financial advice, management information, and support to Departments across the University (total turnover exceeds £600m).

The successful applicant will provide financial analysis, support, and advice to the Departments and Faculties within the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, one of six Schools into which the University's academic Departments are grouped. The main responsibilities include preparation and presentation of financial plans and budgets, reporting and monitoring performance against budgets, developing information to support financial decisions, assisting and supporting Departments with financial analysis, advising on financial processes and procedures, and acting as a conduit between Departments and the central Finance Division.

The role reports to the Assistant Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, but is 'embedded' within the School and thus works closely with the Head of the School and School Secretary. There is line management for one member of staff, the Finance Adviser of the School. The salary will be in the range of £49,096 to £52,086 a year.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication and analytical skills and be able to present and explain financial information to senior non-finance professionals. The successful applicant will also be a qualified accountant and have experience of planning and budgetary control within a large organization. A strong team player, the post-holder will have the maturity and integrity to influence and impact at the highest levels.

Temporary Lecturer in Slavonic Studies in the Department of Slavonic Studies

The Department of Slavonic Studies is seeking to appoint a temporary Lecturer in Slavonic Studies for three years with effect from 1 September 2009. Candidates should be able to teach Russian language at all levels, Russian literature and culture since 1800, and be willing to take an active part in general Departmental administration and examining. The post-holder will be expected to teach undergraduate and research students in the area of Slavonic Studies and in the Faculty's postgraduate M.Phil. courses where appropriate. Candidates should have a record of, or clearly demonstrate the potential for, outstanding research in a relevant field.

Senior Research Associate in Spanish Golden Age Culture in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Associate in Spanish Golden Age Culture, in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. The vacancy arises in relation to a new research project on Spanish Golden Age poetry, funded by the Leverhulme Trust and the Isaac Newton Trust. The post-holder will be expected to engage in research on this project alongside its Principal Investigator, Dr Rodrigo Cacho, and to contribute to the teaching within the Department, giving some lectures in undergraduate courses in Golden Age, supervising M.Phil. work in relevant fields, and assisting in Tripos examinations. The post-holder will be required to hold a Ph.D. Degree and have a specialization in Spanish Golden Age. Applicants should have a strong profile, both in terms of research and publications, and with the promise to bring an outstanding input to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Potential applicants should also have a native or excellent non-native command of Spanish and English.

Assistant Director of Teaching (part-time) in the Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry wishes to appoint a part-time Assistant Director of Teaching to assist the Director of Teaching. The post will be for 30% of time and is an academic-related post. The position is available for seven years in the first instance, since it is linked to Professor C. J. Howe's appointment as Director of Teaching.

The Assistant Director of Teaching will work with the Director of Teaching and the Department's Teaching and Examinations Secretary to co-ordinate the running of the Department's teaching activities, and take an active role in course and curriculum planning and development, and quality assurance. The successful applicant will ideally have a Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in an area covered by the Department's research activities, plus experience of teaching within the Department of Biochemistry's courses, but proven organizational and management skills are essential. The salary will be in the range of £32,458 to £43,622 a year, pro rata.
