University Lecturer in the Faculty of Economics

Applications are invited for a Lectureship in the Faculty of Economics, which is available from 1 September 2009. This is a tenured position with a five-year probationary period. The Faculty is seeking applicants in the area of Financial Economics or International Economics. Applicants should have a Ph.D. Degree, or be firmly expected to have a Ph.D. Degree by September 2009. The salary will be in the range of £36,532 to £46,278 a year.

The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University. All applicants must complete and sign an Application Form PD18 (Parts I and III only).

Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Fellow in Chinese Buddhism in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

The Department of East Asian Studies seeks to appoint a postdoctoral Fellow in Chinese Buddhism. Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. Degree in any relevant subject area relating to the Buddhist tradition in pre-modern China. The successful candidate is expected to have a proven record of original research and an advanced proficiency in classical and literary Chinese. He or she must be able to take up the appointment on 1 October 2009 and have a Ph.D. Degree in hand when taking up the position. In addition to conducting research, the post-holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching in Chinese history, classical and literary Chinese texts, and graduate seminars.

The salary for the post will be in the range of £27,183 to £35,469 a year. The limit of tenure is three years.

Centre for Trophoblast Research Next Generation Fellowships

The Centre for Trophoblast Research, based within the Department of Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience, aims to promote the study of placental biology, with particular reference to the trophoblast. The Centre is offering up to two Next Generation Fellowships commencing in 2009. Candidates should normally be within three years of the award of their Ph.D. Degree. Applicants must display evidence of a strong research record and an ability to perform independent research. A Fellowship may be tenable for one or more years at a time, renewable up to a maximum of five years. Fellowship holders are expected to apply for a Senior Research Fellowship from a research council or medical charity during the course of their tenure. The scheme is open to UK, EU, and Overseas Ph.D. graduates.

Each Fellowship will provide flexible funding of up to £50,000 a year, inclusive of a personal salary on the Research Associate scale (£27,182 to £35,469 a year), employer's contribution to pension and National Insurance of 21% approximately a year, research consumables, equipment, and conference travel. The Fellows will be expected to provide the Managers with an annual report outlining research progress and accounting for expenditure. Fellows will be expected to contribute fully to the activities of the Centre and to their host Department.
