Graces submitted to the Regent House on 31 May 2007

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 8 June 2007.

1. That an Ashby Scholarship Fund be established in the University, to be governed by the following regulations:1

Ashby Scholarship Fund

1. The sums donated by and in honour of Professor M. F. Ashby, CBE, FRS, FREng, formerly Professor of Engineering and Royal Society Research Professor, shall form a fund called the Ashby Scholarship Fund for the benefit of postgraduate students undertaking research in Mechanics and Materials and related areas in the Department of Engineering.

2. The income, and that part of the capital of the Fund not earmarked by the donors for endowment, shall be used for the provision of a Scholarship to be called the Ashby Scholarship in Mechanics and Materials.

3. The Electors to the Scholarship shall be the Head of the Department of Engineering, the Head of the relevant Division, and one member of staff of this Division who shall be appointed by the Faculty Board of Engineering in the Michaelmas Term to serve for four years from 1 January following her or his appointment.

4. In order to be eligible for the Scholarship a candidate must have been admitted, or be seeking admission, as a registered Graduate Student for research towards the Ph.D. Degree in the Department of Engineering.

5. The Scholarship shall be tenable for one year in the first instance, and may be renewed by the Electors for a second or third year but normally no longer.

6. The Scholarship shall provide:
(a) a maintenance payment to be determined by the Electors,
(b) a payment to meet the Scholar's University and College fees,
(c) a contribution to other costs such as equipment and travel expenses according to the discretion of the Electors.

2. That, with effect from 1 October 2007, the regulations for the dates of examinations and publication of class-lists (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 217) be amended by removing the entry for the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos and for the Diploma in Theology and Religious Studies from the list of examinations starting on the Thursday before the last Sunday in May and inserting them under the list for examinations beginning on the Tuesday before the last Sunday in May.

3. That, on the nomination of Girton College, Margaret Ann Guite, M.A., of that College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2007-08.

4. That, on the nomination of Corpus Christi College, Paul Duncan Beattie, Ph.D., of that College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2007-08.

5. That, on the nomination of the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctors designate, Frank Haydon King, M.A., Ph.D., of Churchill and Magdalene Colleges, and Michael George Kuczinski, M.A., of Pembroke College, be appointed additional Pro-Proctors for the academical year 2007-08.
