Graces submitted to the Regent House on 28 February 2007

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 9 March 2007.

1. That a Sylvia Haslam Prize in Ecology be established in the University to be governed by the following regulations:1

Sylvia Haslam Prize in Ecology

1. The sum of £2,000 given to the University by Dr Sylvia Haslam, M.A., Ph.D., Sc.D., of Newnham College, shall form a fund called the Sylvia Haslam Prize Fund, which shall be used to provide a prize called the Sylvia Haslam Prize in Ecology.

2. The Prize shall be awarded annually by the Head of the Department of Plant Sciences, the Professor of Plant Ecology, and the Examiners for the subject Plant Sciences in Part II of the Natural Sciences Tripos for an outstanding performance in ecology in the examination for that subject unless the Awarders are of the opinion that there is no candidate of sufficient merit to receive the Prize.

3. The Prize shall consist of books, to the value of the annual income of the Fund, selected by the prize-winner subject to the approval of the Head of the Department of Ecology.

4. If in any year no award is made the income for that year shall be added to the capital of the Fund.

2. That the recommendations in paragraph 5 of the Report of the General Board, dated 5 February 2007, on the establishment of a Prince Philip Professorship of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (Reporter, 2006-07, p. 382) be approved.
