Grace submitted to the Regent House on 24 March 2004

The Council submit the following Grace to the Regent House. This Grace, unless it is withdrawn or a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 115), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 2 April 2004.

1. That Rule 8.5 of the Rules of the Contributory Pension Scheme be amended so as to read:1

8.5 The period of office of the University as sole Trustee is 11 years from and including 6 April 1997, expiring on 5 April 2008.

1 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 159. By virtue of the Pensions Act 1995, and under Rule 8.5 of the Contributory Pension Scheme, the University was appointed as sole trustee of the Scheme for a period which expires on 5 April 2004. Under the Occupational Pension Schemes (Member-nominated Trustees and Directors) Amendment Regulations 2002 the period for which this appointment could be made was extended to 2008. It is likely, however, that the appointment will need to be reconsidered before 2008 in the light of new legislation which will come into effect when the Pensions Bill 2004 becomes law.
