The following elections, appointments, and reappointments have been made:

Elections

Professor Guillermo de la Peña, NH, Licenciado, Instituto Libre de Filosofía y Ciencias, Mexico City, M.A., Ph.D., Manchester, Research Professor, Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social, Unidad Occidente, Mexico, elected Simón Bolívar Professor of Latin-American Studies from 1 October 2003 until 31 July 2004, assigned to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Professor Daan Frenkel, drs., Ph.D., Amsterdam, Professor of Computational Macromolecular Chemistry, University of Amsterdam, elected Rothschild Visiting Professor from 1 April 2004 until 30 April 2004.

Professor Patricia Ann Simpson, N, B.Sc., Southampton, Doctorat d'Etat ès Science Naturelles, Paris VI, FRS, Wellcome Principal Research Fellow, appointed Professor of Comparative Embryology from 1 October 2002 until 31 July 2010, assigned to the Department of Zoology.

Classics. Dr Laura Julia Preston, N, B.A., Leeds, M.A., Ph.D., London, appointed from 1 October 2003 for three years.

Philosophy. Dr Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, M.Phil., Ph.D., G, B.A., Oxford, M.A., Sussex, appointed from 1 January 2004 for three years.

Chairman

Council of the School of Biological Sciences. Professor Sir Thomas Blundell, SID, appointed from 1 October 2003 for two years.

Departmental Secretary

Clinical Veterinary Medicine. Mrs Julie Ingham, B.A., CNAA, appointed Departmental Secretary, Grade C, from 1 October 2003 until the retiring age.

Senior Technical Officer

Clinical Medicine. Dr Kefford Tibbles, B.Sc., Warwick, Ph.D., CNAA, appointed from 1 August 2003 until the retiring age.

Assistant Treasurer

University Offices (Finance Division). Ms Charmain Allen, B.Sc., Hull, appointed from 1 October 2003 until the retiring age, with duties in the School of Technology.

Administrative Officer

University Offices (Academic Division). Miss Sarah Anne Hannaford, B.Sc., Sheffield, appointed Administrative Officer, Grade I, from 3 November 2003 until the retiring age.
