Professorship of English and Applied Linguistics and Directorship of the Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics: Notice

The Board of Electors to the Professorship of English and Applied Linguistics invite applications for the Professorship which will become vacant on 1 October 2004 on the retirement of Professor Gillian Brown. It is hoped that the successful candidate will take up appointment on 1 October 2004 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Professor will also be the Director of the Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics which undertakes research focusing on second language learning processes in the areas of morpho-syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, particularly with respect to English.

The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University. Further information may be obtained from the Academic Secretary, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT (e-mail ibise@admin.cam.ac.uk), to whom a letter of application, marked 'Confidential', including details of current and future research plans, a curriculum vitae, and a publications list should be sent, together with the names of two referees, so as to reach him not later than Friday, 26 September 2003.
