University Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering

University Lecturer, to take up post in the Department of Chemical Engineering. The appointment will fall within the broad area of modern chemical engineering, involving activity at the interface between science and engineering. The post-holder will be a graduate in chemical engineering, or associated branches of engineering or science, e.g. biology, chemistry, materials science, mathematics, microbiology, or physics. The post-holder will have extensive experience of chemical process design in industry, and if appropriate will be expected to develop a record of world-class research commensurate with the Department's international standing and research reputation. In addition to teaching design, responsibilities will include contributing to all aspects of undergraduate and Masters' courses and supervising graduate students.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £23,296, rising by eleven annual increments to £35,950. An appointment at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age, subject to satisfactory performance.

Administrative Officer, Grade II, in the Development Office

A vacancy exists for an Administrative Officer, Grade II (Fundraising Projects Officer) to join the Fundraising Research and Information team in the Development Office. The post-holder will be responsible for the development and presentation of project information for current and potential donors. Working with a small team, the post-holder will write factual briefings, project proposals, and other detailed documentation required for fundraising purposes. The post-holder will also write copy for direct marketing campaigns and publications.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, very good interpersonal skills, an eye for detail, a capacity for analysis, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a small team sometimes operating under pressure. Excellent computer skills including some experience of desktop publishing are also required. Previous experience in a fundraising or marketing environment is essential.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade II, is £21,125 to £27,339. Appointment will be to the retiring age, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

Temporary Lectureships in the Faculty of English

English Literature, 1688-1847

This is a one-year post, effective from 1 October 2003. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the teaching of literature of the period 1688-1847, at graduate and undergraduate level, and must be able to demonstrate a capacity to provide teaching in the period 1700-90.

Commonwealth and International Literature in English

This is a six-month post effective from 1 October 2003 to 31 March 2004. The post-holder will be expected to contribute, at undergraduate and graduate level, to the teaching of Commonwealth and International Literature in English, and to the teaching of literary theory.

Appointments will be in the range of £21,125 to £25,451. Temporary Lecturer in the Department of Physiology

Applications are invited for the post of Temporary Lecturer in Physiology from 1 August 2003 to 31 July 2008. Applicants should have a broad knowledge of physiology and will be required to carry a significant undergraduate teaching and examining load. Preference will be given to individuals able to teach systems physiology. A limited amount of research may be undertaken in an area within the Department's existing portfolio.

The appointment will be fixed term for the period 1 August 2003 to 31 July 2008. Salary will be on the scale of £23,296 to £35,950 a year.

Programme Manager (Experiential Learning) in the Cambridge Entrepreneurship Centre

The Cambridge Entrepreneurship Centre is seeking a Programme Manager (Experiential Learning). The self-motivated, successful candidate will possess the ability to develop strategy, drive, and project manage programmes, requiring a high degree of organizational skill, a degree or equivalent level of education, ideally to postgraduate level, and teaching/training skills (area of entrepreneurship practice highly desirable). The following are also required: knowledge of business training methods; relationship management skills, including oral and written communication skills; three to five years of teaching/training experience (including curriculum design), experience of working within an educational/practical training environment; and an interest in and/or basic knowledge of science/technology (and ideally entrepreneurship).

The salary will be on a scale of £25,451 to £30,660 a year. This is a new post, for two years in the first instance which may, subject to the availability of funding, be renewed for a further period or periods.

Candidates appointed to Teaching Fellowships will be guaranteed to supervise 60 hours, or possibly more. The value of the Fellowships will be approximately £1,500 per Fellowship for 60 hours of supervisions (i.e. a supplement of £25 per hour for the agreed teaching hours) plus a grant of £500 towards teaching expenses. These payments will be supplementary payments over and above normal payments for supervisions, which will be paid for by undergraduate Colleges in the usual manner.
