UNIVERSITY OFFICE

Applications are invited for the following University office:

University Lecturer in the Department of Engineering

The Department of Engineering invites applications for a University Lectureship in the area of numerical modelling in combustion. Areas of interest are computational fluid dynamics applied to turbulent combustion and reactive flows, flame stability, and gas turbine combustion, as well as combustion chemistry applied to these subjects. Preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants with a record of excellence in research in a relevant area and/or industrial experience, and an ability and enthusiasm for teaching.

The Department of Engineering has made a strategic decision to increase its research activities in the general area of combustion for gas turbines. This includes the establishment of additional academic posts and the development of new experimental facilities. The Department has effective interactions and collaborations with industry and has sustained research funding in this area. It is anticipated that the people appointed will actively engage in research in the general area of combustion through their own work, and through supervision of postgraduate research students and research projects. In addition they will be expected to contribute to teaching in the areas of combustion, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics in the four-year engineering course leading to the B.A. and M.Eng. Degrees.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £23,296 to £35,950 a year. Appointment shall be to the retiring age, subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

Further particulars and an application form may be obtained from the Secretary of the Faculty Board of Engineering, Department of Engineering, Trumpington Street, Cambridge, CB2 1PZ (tel. 01223 332615, fax 01223 766364, e-mail fb-office@eng.cam.ac.uk), to whom each candidate should return a completed application form and a curriculum vitae by 15 March 2003.
