English Tripos, Part I, 2003: Notice

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 301)

The Faculty Board of English wish to clarify that the amendments to Part I of the English Tripos published in the Reporter on 20 March 2002 (p. 620) are to take effect from the examination in 2004. The examination in 2003 will be taken under the regulations set out in Statutes and Ordinances, 2001, p. 288. The papers for the examination are reproduced below:

Paper 1. English literature and its background, 1300-1550.

Paper 2. English literature and its background, 1550-1700.

Paper 3. English literature and its background, 1700-1830.

Paper 4. English literature and its background, since 1830.

Paper 5. Shakespeare.

Paper 6. Literary criticism.

Paper 7. Foreign language and literature: passages for translation and comment.

Paper 8. Early medieval literature and its background (also serves as Paper 14 of Part II of the English Tripos, as Paper O9 of Part II of the Classical Tripos, and as Paper 11 of Part I of the Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Tripos).

Paper 10. Insular Latin language and literature (Paper 4 of Part I of the Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Tripos).

Paper 11. Old Norse language and literature (Paper 6 of Part I of the Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Tripos).

Paper 12. Medieval Welsh language and literature (Paper 7 of Part I of the Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Tripos).

Paper 13. Varieties of English.
