REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Social and Political Sciences Tripos, Parts IIA and IIB

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 400)

With effect from 1 October 2002

New Papers Soc. 9 (A subject in sociology V) and Int. 9 (An interdisciplinary subject IV) have been introduced; the structure of Paper Int. 1 (Inquiry and analysis I) has been amended by dividing it into two options; and the date on which the essays to be submitted for Paper Pol. 5 has been amended. The regulations have been amended as follows:

Regulation 14.

By dividing Paper Int. 1 'Inquiry and analysis' into two Papers Int. 1A and Int. 1B, and by inserting the following additional papers:

Sociology

Soc. 9. A subject in sociology V.

Interdisciplinary papers

Int. 9. An interdisciplinary subject IV.

By amending the last sentence so as to read:

Not more than one subject shall be specified for each of Pol. 4, 7-9, 11, 12, Psy. 4-6, Soc. 3-6, 9, and Int. 3-5, 9.

Regulation 15(a).

By replacing, in the first sentence, 'Int. 1' by 'Int. 1A and Int. 1B'; by inserting the number '9' after the papers 'Soc. 3-6' and 'Int. 3-8'; and by amending the final sentence so as to read:

The examination for Int. 1A shall consist of the submission of a research project, a statistical assignment, and one essay, and the examination for Int. 1B shall consist of the submission of a research project and either a statistical assignment and one essay or two essays.

Regulation 15(c).

By amending the second half of the first sentence so as to read:

essays for all papers except Pol. 5 and Int. 1A and Int. 1B not later than the end of the first week of the Full Easter Term in which the examination is to be held; for Pol. 5 one essay not later than the end of the first week of Full Lent Term and one essay not later than the end of the first week of Full Easter Term; for Int. 1A and Int. 1B the statistical assignment shall be submitted before the diversion of the Lent Term, the essay or essays before the end of the Lent Term, and the report before the division of the Easter Term.

Regulation 16.

By replacing in sub-paragraphs (b) and (d) 'Int. 1' by 'Int. 1A', and in sub-paragraph (c) 'Int. 1' by 'Int. 1B'.

Regulation 17.

By replacing in sub-paragraph (c) 'Int. 1' and 'Int. 7-8' at each occurrence by 'Int. 1B' and 'Int. 7-9'.

Regulation 18.

By inserting the number '9' in sub-paragraph (c) after 'Int. 2-6,'.

Regulation 19.

By replacing 'Soc. 3-8' and 'Int. 2-8' at each occurrence by 'Soc. 3-9' and 'Int. 2-9', and by replacing in the proviso 'Soc. 3-6, Int. 3-8' by 'Soc. 3-6, 9, Int. 3-9'.

Regulation 20.

By amending the regulation so as to read:

20. Subject to the provisions of Regulation 11 a candidate for Part IIB who has taken option (d) in Part IIA shall offer:

(a) two papers chosen from Psy. 3-6, Soc. 1-9;
(b) one paper chosen from Psy. 3-6, Soc. 1-9, Pol. 1-4, Int. 2-9, and a dissertation, as prescribed in Regulation 22.

Regulation 21.

By inserting in the final line the number '9' after 'Soc. 3-6' and 'Int. 2-8'.

The Faculty Board of Social and Political Sciences give notice that the following additional variable subjects have been prescribed for papers in Parts IIA and IIB of the Tripos in 2004 (see also the Notice on p. 59).

Sociology

Soc. 9. A subject in sociology V: Religion and politics.

Interdisciplinary papers

Int. 9. An interdisciplinary subject IV: The political economy of capitalism.
