AWARDS BY OUTSIDE BODIES

Ecole Normale Supérieure

The French Cultural and Scientific Delegation would like to draw students' attention to a new three-year grant scheme set up by the Ecole Normale Supérieure (45 rue d'Ulm, 75005 Paris) for third-year students in the Humanities or Sciences.

The candidate must be 24 years old or younger on 1 January 2002 and may only apply once for this selection procedure. If accepted, students receive a monthly grant of 1,000 euros during their three-year participation.

During their studies, students are required to obtain French national diplomas (maîtrise, DEA), which provide qualifications for equivalent foreign diplomas. They may also choose to take the national teacher training course. The DEA (Diploma of Advanced Studies) corresponds to the first stage of specialization in candidates' chosen research subjects and is followed by the first year of their doctoral thesis.

Application files and detailed information concerning the international selection process are available on the Ecole Normale Supérieure website at http://www.ens.fr/international.

The final deadline for returning completed applications is 25 April 2002. Candidates are informed by mail (in June 2002) as to whether their application has been selected. The candidates whose applications have been accepted are individually invited to Paris (July 2002), where they will take the written tests on the first day; interviews with the examination panel will be held on subsequent days. The results of the international examination are made public at the end of July 2002. The school year commences mid-September 2002. Intensive French language courses can be arranged if necessary.
