St Catherine's College

GRADUATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTSHIP IN MATERIALS SCIENCE IN ASSOCIATION WITH ST CATHERINE'S COLLEGE, 2002

St Catherine's College, in conjunction with the University of Oxford's Department of Materials, hopes to award one University Graduate Studentship tenable in any area of Materials Science from 1 October 2002 for up to three years. The Studentship is only open to students from countries within the European Union accepted by the Department of Materials for entry in October 2002 to read for a postgraduate research degree at the University, and is tenable only at St Catherine's College. The award combines a Graduate College Scholarship of £2,000 a year with a Departmental award for British nationals, and will be at least £8,000 a year plus fees. Nationals of other EU countries will receive the College award and have their fees paid by the Department, but will need some other source of funding to cover their living expenses.

Applicants must complete an Oxford application form if they have not already done so, and they may wish to place St Catherine's as their College of first choice. The form should be sent as soon as possible to the Graduate Admissions Office as directed. When the dossier is complete, it will be sent to the Department of Materials for consideration. If accepted, it will then be passed on to the College of first choice. Candidates who have already completed an Oxford application form do not need to amend their choice of Colleges in order to be eligible to apply.

There is no application form. To apply, please send a covering letter and curriculum vitae to Kay Sims, Secretary to the Director of Graduate Studies, Department of Materials, University of Oxford, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PH (tel. 01865 273682, fax 01865 273783, e-mail kay.sims@materials.ox.ac.uk), by Thursday, 25 April 2002. Nationals of EU countries other than Britain should also state their other means of financial support. In addition, the Oxford application form for postgraduate study must be submitted to the University by the same date.

Applications for the University Studentship must be received by Thursday, 25 April 2002 and candidates will not be required to attend an interview. Information about the Department of Materials may be obtained from its website at http://www.materials.ox.ac.uk/.
