St Cross College

E. P. ABRAHAM JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The College proposes to make an election to an E. P. Abraham Junior Research Fellowship in some branch of the medical, biological, or chemical sciences, tenable for two years from 1 October 2002 and renewable for one further year. The Fellowship is open to men and women and carries a stipend of £17,451 a year, together with common table rights (five lunches a week). It is assumed that applicants will have found a place with an appropriate Oxford Department and will not be in receipt of another substantial stipend or other source of funding.

Applicants should have submitted their doctoral dissertations by the date of taking up the appointment or have obtained the D.Phil., Ph.D., or equivalent within the last five years, but the College will exercise flexibility in the case of applicants whose academic careers have been interrupted.

Applications (marked E. P. Abraham JRF) should include details of the candidate's academic record, proposed subject of research and research programme, together with the names of two referees, and should be sent to the Master, St Cross College, Oxford, OX1 3LZ, by Monday, 18 March. Applicants should ask their referees to send references direct to the Master by that date. It is expected that interviews will be held on 17 May.

UNILEVER GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN THE SCIENCES 2002-03

The College offers the said Scholarship for which it invites applications from students who will be studying for a postgraduate degree in the University of Oxford in the academic year 2002-03. The Scholarship is valued at £1,863 a year, tenable for between one and three years, coterminous with College fee liability. Preference will be given to those studying for degrees in engineering or biochemistry. Applications should be received by 18 March. It is intended to hold interviews on 9 May.

Scholarships are awarded only after interview. Only in the most exceptional circumstances is the College able to pay travel expenses for interview. Any candidates unsuccessful in their application for a Scholarship may, if they wish, be considered for normal membership of the College. Enquiries about the procedures for applying for a Scholarship and requests for application forms should be sent to the College Office, St Cross College, Oxford, OX1 3LZ (e-mail college.secretary@stx.ox.ac.uk).
